The June and Andrew Mlangeni Foundation has its roots in Dube Soweto, where June Mlangeni resided while her husband Andrew was imprisoned with Nelson Mandela, Walter Sisulu and others in Robben Island. June started caring for the elderly in Dube by making clothes and preparing meals for them.
Many years later, this very humble act has evolved into the June and Andrew Mlangeni Foundation which was established by Andrew Mlangeni in honour of his wife following her passing and has as its sole aim and purpose to use the funds it raises at various fundraising functions in order to make sure the elderly of Soweto get a new blanket every year to keep them warm.
Not only will the foundation be distributing blankets, the June and Andrew Mlangeni Foundation will continue to grow from strength to strength with many dedicated volunteers giving freely of their time and efforts, expanding its operations one ward at a time and thereby ensuring the comfort of the elderly in Soweto.
Andrew Mlangeni was one of the survivors of the Rivonia Trials and came out of prison with his good friend Nelson Mandela. The June and Andrew Mlangeni Foundation (JAMF) annually coordinates Ntante Mlangeni fundraising golf day. This is another exciting year for the foundation as Dr Mlangeni is turning 94 years old
